Though the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has put a temporary halt to residential evictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, many tenants in Texas are still receiving notices to vacate their homes due to loopholes in the Federal Register Notice.
The federal ban only applies to the nonpayment of rent, leaving renters at the whim of their landlords for other lease violations. Moreover, to qualify for the federal eviction ban, renters may earn no more than $99,000 per year and must be able to pay off as much of their rent as possible.
